Cover: The blur caused by an overcorrecting contact lens (-10 D) is approximated in the image appearing at right. Blurring images in one eye for 2 days is sufficient to cause an ocular dominance shift in kitten visual cortex as severe as that caused by lid closure. These findings have implications for both the mechanism and treatment of amblyopia. For details, see Rittenhouse CD, Siegler BA, Voelker CA, Shouval HZ, Paradiso MA, and Bear MF. Stimulus for rapid ocular dominance plasticity in visual cortex. J Neurophysiol 95: 29472950, 2006. First published February 15, 2006; doi:10.1152/jn.01328.2005.
