Jorge-Rivera JC, McIntyre KL, Henderson LP. Anabolic androgenic steroids induce region - and subunit-specific rapid modulation of GABAA receptor-mediated currents in the rat forebrain. J. Neurophysiol. 83: 3299-3309, 2000.
An investigation by the Office of the Inspector General, National Science Foundation, found that conclusions in this paper related to the modulation of recombinant and native GABAA receptors by anabolic steroids, as well as the behavioral implications of these findings, were based, in part, on data that had been falsified by the first author, Dr. Jorge-Rivera. The paper is therefore being retracted by the American Physiological Society at the request of Dr. Jorge-Rivera, and with the concurrence of the co-authors (who were neither accused of nor found responsible for any wrongdoing) as required by the National Science Foundation.
